Botanix Labs, an up-and-coming player in the realm of cryptocurrencies, recently made a groundbreaking announcement regarding their latest accomplishment. The company successfully secured a substantial $8.5 million in funding to further enhance and develop Spiderchain, their innovative layer 2 network focused on Bitcoin. With this recent investment, Botanix Labs has now accumulated a grand total of $11.5 million in funding, building upon the $3 million pre-seed round they held the previous year.
The funding round was spearheaded by renowned names in the field of cryptocurrency investments, including Polychain Capital, Placeholder Capital, Valor Equity Partners, and ABCDE. The involvement of these influential investors is a testament to the growing confidence in the Botanix project, which is based in New York.
One of the primary objectives of Spiderchain is to integrate compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) layers into the Bitcoin blockchain. This functionality is essential as it enables applications and smart contracts originally designed for Ethereum to be seamlessly transferred to the Bitcoin ecosystem. This breakthrough promises to expand Bitcoin’s capabilities beyond its fundamental role as a store of value, introducing smart contract functionalities that were previously associated primarily with Ethereum.
The Spiderchain testnet was launched in November of the previous year and has already demonstrated promising results, boasting over 200,000 active addresses and more than 10,000 experimental token launches. The release of the initial version of the mainnet is anticipated in the upcoming months, raising hopes that Bitcoin will soon offer an even broader range of applications.
Armin Sabouri, co-founder of Botanix, emphasized Bitcoin’s unparalleled security and untapped potential, stating, “Bitcoin has proven to be the most secure monetary network in history. Now it’s time to put bitcoin to work, transforming it from just a store of value into a global monetary network that strengthens the sovereignty of individuals.”
The progress made by Botanix Labs and their innovative work with Spiderchain are clear indications that Bitcoin is potentially entering a new phase of utility and technological integration, fostering greater diversification in the utilization of cryptocurrencies.
