Bitcoin giant Tether increases Bitcoin accumulation strategy
Bitcoin giant Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has stepped up its Bitcoin accumulation strategy, adding 8.888 BTC to its portfolio in the first quarter of 2025. As per data on-chain, the company now holds a total of 100.521 BTC, valued at approximately $8.46 billion.
The transfer of Bitcoins acquired by Tether, worth about $750 million, from an address on the Bitfinex exchange to a wallet controlled by the company, according to data of the Arkham Intelligence platform, reinforces its strategic accumulation stance.
At press time, Bitcoin’s price was trading at $83,687.11, up 1.2% over the past 24 hours. During this time, Bitcoin (BTC) trading volume was $27,442,877,921, representing a 35.50% increase from a day ago and signaling a recent surge in market activity.
It is worth noting that Tether’s exponential growth last year, with a profit of US$13 billion, allowed it to diversify its investments, becoming the seventh largest buyer of US Treasury bonds, surpassing countries such as Canada and Mexico. In addition to Bitcoin, Tether has expanded its operations in other sectors, with strategic investments in media companies, sports and agribusiness.

In a major development in the financial market, Tether is now among the top ten buyers of US Treasury bonds, consolidating its position as an influential force in both the cryptocurrency and traditional finance sectors. This move underscores the growing role of crypto companies in global finance and marks a significant shift in how digital assets interact with established financial systems.
Tether’s acquisition of U.S. Treasuries, which are considered one of the safest investments in the world, not only highlights its expanded role in the global financial landscape, but also underscores the company’s investment strategy. This move aims to both ensure the stability of Tether’s 1:1 peg to the dollar and earn a reliable return on its assets.
