Over the past week, El Salvador has made strategic moves to acquire more Bitcoin, significantly increasing its national reserves. According to information from the National Bitcoin Office, the entity responsible for tracking Bitcoin in the country, El Salvador acquired 12 BTC in the past week and 44 BTC in the past month, bringing its total assets to 6,093.18 BTC, valued at over US$523 million.

This acquisition is part of a long-term strategy by the Salvadoran government to strengthen its position in the cryptocurrency market. The most recent purchase, made on March 1, added 1 BTC to the strategic reserve, reinforcing the country’s proactive stance amidst market price fluctuations.

In addition to the acquisitions, El Salvador has undergone significant legislative changes regarding the use of Bitcoin. The country’s Legislative Assembly, in a resounding 55-2 vote in late January, approved changes to the law regulating Bitcoin. The changes, which come into effect on May 1, remove the requirement for businesses to accept Bitcoin as payment, although the cryptocurrency will continue to be considered legal tender.

Interestingly, Bitcoin education has also received special attention. Students in El Salvador are being trained to understand how Bitcoin transactions work, including generating public and private keys and using simulators for hardware wallets, such as ColdCard.

At the time of publication, the price of Bitcoin was quoted at US$85,210.34, up 0.6% in the last 24 hours.
